Camden Market.

Today was my first day at Camden Market and I think it went well. I sold 8 prints all of drawings of London and made enough to cover my costs plus a bit extra. I think I will become a regular on a Saturday. My spot is inside, the people are nice and I am slowly working on ways to improve the presentation of my stall to make more sales.

Winter landscapes

These three winter landscapes are from photos I took of a local park when we started getting the first of the snow in London around December last year. At first I tried a semi realistic approach so I can understand the basic steps taken while painting landscapes and I found it is best to work in layers from the background to the foreground. I will be doing lots of small landscapes for practice and when I feel confident enough I will start to work on larger sizes and start painting outside.

Daffodils

This Daffodil painting was inspired by my weekly walk through Greenwich park to get to the markets on a Sunday morning. Over the last 3 weeks I have seen hundreds of Daffodil plants grow and flower. Another sign that spring is finally here.

Day, Twilight and Night.

I have finally finished this series of three paintings of terraces below the sky at the end of my street. I like how the houses generally stay the same as the great sky above is always active and ever changing.

Life drawing.

These two drawings are my favorite figurative works I have done in a while. The male model is an actor and straight away he made some really creative and intense posses. I was thinking about doing life drawings on separate sheets of paper to put into the flip stand at Greenwich markets.

Greenwich market Sunday

This is my second time doing the markets and my first Sunday, things are still a bit slow and no sales yet. I am hoping with selling prints of my artwork at Camden market this Saturday and doing another Sunday at Greenwich I will have better luck this coming weekend.

New paintings

The top painting is called "Fern growing out of a wine bottle #2" and is acrylic and gouache on canvas 28 x 45cm.
The bottom picture is called "Day"and is acrylic and gouache on canvas 28 x 45cm. These two pictures I will display at Greenwich art market tomorrow.

The first breath of Spring.

It is finally starting show signs of spring in London. Many of the parks have lots of little yellow, white and purple flowers coming up over the last few weeks. The image above is a mix of fact, fiction and wishful thinking! I imagine myself sitting before this picture on the soft green grass, feeling the warmth of the sunshine and enjoying a nice warm still spring day. So I am hoping that it will actually start to feel like spring soon and the grey clouds and rain over London will give way to warmer clear days.

Sculpture in the snow

This is a photo that my friend Monique sent me today. When I stayed at her beautiful property in Mallorca mid last year, I sculpted this head of a women to put in her garden. I like the idea of sculptures being outside in the elements and how they will slowly change and be worn down by the hand of time.

Bottles and flowers

The above is a painting from my art and travel journal #7 of flowers in bottles on my mantel piece. On the left is an old ceramic bottle I found in the mud along the Thames. after cleaning out the bottle I found that it still has it's old cork which has been pushed inside. In the middle is a Chambord liqueur royal bottle I found late one Saturday night while walking along Regent street in London CBD. I like how the bottle on the right has an oval shaped hole in it, which makes a perfect spot to place flowers.

Greenwich art markets

Today was my first day at the Greenwich art markets and the first time I have shown my work in London. Overall the feedback was positive and I nearly made a few sales. I spent most of the day sitting in the sun, doing a little work in my art journal and talking to people. It feels good to have a place to regularly show my work and I am hoping I will be able to live from doing the markets a few times a week.

Portrait of Tim

Tim was 8 months old when this photo was taken. His parents Heiko and Martina are German and I met them through a mutual friend in Mallorca. They sent me the photo to paint his picture for the portrait project over 4 months ago now and I have finally got around to painting it over the last few days. It is interesting to find that when you put a picture aside because you think it is too difficult or you haven't got the time, can become easier then you thought and even easier to paint then to procrastinate over doing it!
